Good website advice from WSJ

Talking Tech commentary in the Wall St. Journal today carried an interview with Forrester Research about what makes a good website vs. a bad website.

Here's their answer to the question, how do well-designed sites happen? The really good sites are designed by groups that ask and answer three questions:

  • Who are your target users?
  • What are their goals?
  • And how are you going to help them achieve those goals?

Here, here. Good websites are designed around customer needs and figuring out how best to address those needs. Keywords, which Margrit wrote an excellent blog about, also focuses on the words customers use. Not necessarily the words that the corporate suite uses.

A good website is good marketing and good marketing knows the target audience and their concerns and wants.
