the CHALLENGE
In 2003, a Tsunami struck the west cost of Northern Sumatra, in one of the world’s worst natural disasters.
In a matter of minutes, entire populations were wiped out, soldiers as well as rebels were killed, and local government was all but eliminated. Immediate outpouring of generous international aid relieved immediate suffering, but also created a false economy. Civil war ceased, but only a fragile peace prevailed in its place.
How do you lay a foundation for long-term sustainable benefits in the midst of such radical change?
